The Brain Injury ID Card scheme

Is accessible through the national charity, Headway – the brain injury association, provides personalised wallet-sized verification of the card holder’s brain injury as well as some details of the challenges they experience.

It’s a frustrating and infuriating reality that people with brain injuries can be excluded from everyday activities or treated unfairly because of a lack of understanding of brain injury and its effects.

Since its introduction…

the ID Card has been issued to over 10,000 people with brain injuries around the UK and has supported in numerous potentially difficult situations including engagement with Emergency Services, the Criminal Justice System and during the process of claiming welfare benefits, in addition to everyday social situations when it can be difficult or feel too time-pressured to explain the impact of brain injury related disability.
